Medicine Bow – Routt National Forest, Wyoming

“Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.” – John Muir

Project Description

This Gift Tree Planting Project is in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests, Wyoming. These forests comprise over 2 million acres of central and eastern Wyoming and includes Thunder Basin National Grasslands. The region is characterized by mountain ranges and vast open landscapes.

In the late 2000s, this forest area was hit hard by an infestation of the mountain pine beetle, causing mortality rates of approximately 90% of the Lodgepole Pine tree population. While prior to the beetle epidemic, the area relied heavily on excellent natural regeneration, with such a heavy loss of seed viability, natural regeneration has not been possible. Your tree planting will help with the reforesting of the tree stands of Longleaf Pine and promote rapid reforestation to quickly reestablish forest cover to improve watershed quality and promote biodiversity for endangered, threatened, and sensitive plant and wildlife habitat.

Once connected to the map, feel free to zoom in and out to get a feel of the general planting
area as well as its location in Wyoming, the United States, and the world. The link is best viewed on a
personal computer as opposed to a cell phone. Please understand that this is the general area of the tree planting. Your
tree would be planted among thousands of other gift trees and there is no plaque designating the gift
tree and visiting the tree is unfortunately not possible.
Know that the tree planting project is making a monumental difference for the earth and
opening a new doorway to the world for future generations. If you have any questions, please
