Lubbeek, Belgium

“Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.” – John Muir

Project Description

The Gifted Tree’s planting project  is in the area around Lubbeek, Belgium. Lubbeek is a municipality located in the central part of the
country in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. During the previous centuries, these once heavily
forested areas of Belgium have been heavily exploited to meet the needs of agriculture and energy
thereby depleting these beautiful areas of their trees.
Luckily, the Belgium government has introduced legislation and sustainable forest management
practices over the years which have allowed forests to make a comeback. Our planting project of spruce,
Douglas fir, and beech will further allow diversification of the area and introduce species adapted to
changing climate conditions to ensure the sustainability of the forest habitat in favor of increased
biodiversity.
