The Gifted Tree’s See My Tree Program

Some trees being prepared to be planted in the See My Tree planting program.

The Gifted Tree’s See My Tree Program brings full transparency to verified tree planting for memorial and celebration gifts. Select planting locations across the United States and around the world are GPS tracked through our partnership with EcoDrive, giving you real geo coordinates, planting photos, and yearly updates so you can watch your tree grow. Whether you are planting a memorial tree, a celebration tree, or sending a tribute as a physical card or digital eCard, the See My Tree Program turns your gift into something you can actually see, track, and visit.

What Does GPS Verified Tree Planting Mean for Your Gift?

When you select one of our See My Tree program planting locations on the order form, you will have access to some proprietary planting information. You will have a verified tree planting location that includes pictures of the trees planted in that group and geo planting coordinates. While GPS tracked tree planting, it is important to understand you still will not have a picture of your specific tree, just the trees that are part of your tree planting group. As always, there is no plaque on the tree as it is not allowed, but you will know that your tree is a part of the planting location. With verified data and geotag coordinates, it is even possible to visit the trees, although with no promise that it will be easily accessible, as some of the planting locations are a bit remote. Finally, yearly updates will be provided so you can “watch” the trees grow.

Your See My Tree order also includes a personalized tree planting certificate listing your verified planting location, giving your honoree a tangible record of the real tree growing in their name.

Where are the See My Tree planting projects located?

The first project is restoring forests in northern Michigan. Michigan’s vast forest network—spanning nearly 4 million acres of state-managed land—provides clean air and water, and supports biodiversity. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is leading a long-term effort to restore, maintain, and manage these forests using science-backed methods that ensure both ecological and economic sustainability for generations to come.

Our first verified GPS tracked planting project is restoring forests in Northern Michigan in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Additional planting projects are currently in development across the following regions:

  • Canadian Provinces
  • Haiti
  • Africa
  • Amazon Rain Forest
  • United Kingdom
  • Oregon, United States
  • Florida, United States
  • Australia

As each project is confirmed, it will be added as a selectable planting location at checkout. Check back for updates.

Frequently Asked Questions About The See My Tree Program

When are the trees planted?

Each project will have a different planting season depending on location. As always, the goal of these projects is long-term survivability for the trees, thus, our boots-on-the-ground arborists will decide the best time to plant. For example, the Michigan program’s planting season takes place between mid-April and mid-May. It is important to remember that  sometimes when you order a tree, it might not be planted until the next planting season.

What types of trees are planted?

Again the species of trees planted in each project will vary from location to location, but will always be species that are indigenous to that geographical area. Trees that are native to the area have the best chance to thrive for generations. In the northern Michigan forests project, the main species of trees are Oak, Pine, and Cedar.

Will I know the exact tree that I planted?

Not exactly. When planting trees in the project, hundreds or thousands of trees are planted at a time. You will know your tree is part of that group, but your tree will not be specifically pinpointed in that group. There is no plaque on any of the trees as this is not allowed.

Where is my tree planted? Can I visit the tree planting area?

When the trees are finished being planted, The Gifted Tree will receive GPS coordinates which we will publish on the planting location page. This GPS tracked tree planting will not only verify the tree planting location, but the information will allow you to visit the location if desired. Please keep in mind that visiting the project might not be a simple “Sunday Drive,” as some of the locations can be remote and difficult to reach. The Gifted Tree assumes no responsibility for flat tires, animal encounters or any other issues that might arise on your visit.

Can I see pictures of the tree planting project?

Yes, when the planting project session is complete, we will receive picture from the planting project which we will publish on the website. Again, please keep in mind, these are pictures from the project and not specific picture of your tree.

Will I receive updates on the tree planting project?

Yes. While we will not send updates directly to your email, we will be getting yearly updates that will be uploaded to the planting project page. When the urge strikes you, you can visit that page for any updates that exist.
